Horrible food quality. All five of us got sick after eating there.

Ordered from here many times and the food has always been tasty and fresh. They even offer delivery service which is very convenient for me in Lake Bluff. One of my favorites dishes are their homemade sopes - they're make fresh every day! Camarones a la plancha is my second favorite.

All in all, a solid O.K. I had a pastor pork burrito and 5 spicy wings. The burrito was really nothing special and the wings were not bad, but of course, it's kind of hard to mess up wings. I may go back, but it's not a place that I would go out of my way to get back to.

Visiting from Los Angeles. Stopped in. Guacamole is greeeeat!!! I live for good guacamole. Food came out quick. Good spot to drop by for some quick yummy food.

They have delicious food, a polite and helpful staff, and will even deliver in a blizzard!!! Simply amazing :)

The quality of Speedy Taco has been trending a bit south as of late. Given that they no longer have their $1 taco special, they should invest some of the increased revenue towards a jug of Clorox and some scrub brushes; the place is getting pretty dingy and could use some elbow grease. Some tacos are meh, but the chorizo aint too shabby. Free chips and salsa for dining in is a nice touch.

Authentic Mexican food. It felt like we were in California eating tacos. :) Will order again.

Pretty thrilled that this place is so near the base! Legit street tacos...even if you go gringo and get the 3-6 p.m. special of beef tacos, and get the "American" lettuce and tomato version versus the onion and cilantro version, they're still scrumptious. Don't go expecting ambience...it's just counter service, a few laminate tables, and soda you can buy from the can from a cooler or serve-yourself fountain soda...I did see that they had a horchata dispenser, but it was empty for the night when I was there for dinner. Go expecting cheap, flavorful stuff. Chips and salsa come with a nice bit of heat, and the entree is served quickly ("Speedy Taco" is no misnomer). Of the three bottles of sauce/salsa you get at your table, one is a standard red salsa, one is a salsa verde, and the other is a creamy green sauce that isn't, as far as I can tell, any kind of guacamole-ish sauce. I have no idea what it is, but it's DIVINE. It seems pretty likely that it's all homemade. My fiance also for whatever reason, inexplicably ordered ten Buffalo wings (this place has a wide range of food, not just Mex/Tex-Mex), and darned if those weren't as good as I've had in Buffalo. Nice honest place, pleasant employees...not much to look at, but tasty.

Food: 1 Decor: 1 Service: 2 Surprised everyone gave this place 5 stars. I came here for dinner based on the Yelp reviews. 1. fajitas de pollo, 9 yelp.com/biz_photos/vy0s… Bad. Everything was bland, and the chicken was too salty and overcooked. Rice and beans were dreadful. They said it came with a drink, but I only wanted the fajitas. 2. tacos al pastor, 1 yelp.com/biz_photos/vy0s… Bad. They gave me 3 tacos when I only asked for 1. Bit into a pork bone on my first bite, and the tacos were tasteless.

Speedy Taco is legit, and so are the Chile Relleno Burritos. Stopped in, grabbed my food, and was out the door in about 5 minutes. Total bill was about $6.50, fairly typical for a football sized burrito. Their burrito definitely stacked up with some of the best I've ever consumed. Fresh, stout, packed with fresh lettuce, rice, beans, cheese, guacamole, and the chile relleno. Throw on some genuine "hot" sauce, indulge in a little piece of heaven, and grab a pillow, because you WILL need a siesta after this... Gracias.

Not the worst taco I've ever had, but definitely not the best. Food came pretty quick but they give you chips and salsa and the salsas cold. They also don't take American Express. I won't be returning.

I grew up eating quality Mexican food weekly in SoCal and have been craving Mexican food in this neighborhood. I find that it is comparable to fast Mexican food joints back home. For what it is - speedy - it's delicious and affordable. I always get a torta or tacos with horchata and eat in. They deliver chips and salsa to my table to munch on for the three minutes before my food comes out. Sure, the tables are laminate and a little greasy, but I don't care about anything besides filling my growling stomach when I walk into this place.

  • Z K.

Yum! Price is right. They don't have breakfast burritos unfortunately since that's what I really wanted. But for 6 bucks I got a carne asada fully loaded mini football size burrito!!! I could only eat half, the rest is lunch.

Very good and authentic Mexican food. I tried this place out today and really liked how delicious the food was. It is a hole in the wall joint but very good. The tacos are affordable at $1.75 each and they have $1 chicken and beef tacos from 3-6pm. What a steal! More than worth the price. They also have two sets of toppings for the tacos- American (lettuce and tomatoes for the cilantro despisers) and Mexican ( cilantro and onion, my favorite) . After you order at the counter, you can grab a seat. They bring out complimentary chips and salsa. They also have two bottles of sauce - one creamy green sauce and the other is a red sauce. These two bottles (home made) are good. The tacos itself were really good. I ordered chicken, beef and chorizo ( my staple trio at any Mexican restaurant). The chicken was tender and juicy, the beef and the chorizo were freshly cooked. I was not disappointed. They also have an American menu. If you live in the area, or go to school/work around here, you must try this place.

Oh, Speedy Taco is on point! The service is wonderful, the food is fresh and they have an amazing menu to choose from. They've got everything from tacos and tortas to hot dogs and pizza puffs - they even have kid's meals for the young'uns. And honey, let me tell you about the tacos. I always get the chicken ones - and multiculturalism has made me a bit of a picky eater, so I have pretty high standards when it comes to my comida - the cilantro puts taco bell to shame. To shame! Anyway, their horchata could be better, but I'm not docking stars 'cause the place rocks my socks off. At this point, I'm using my elementary Spanish to translate the back of their business card, but it says they also cater. All type of events from Quinceañeras to divorces - yes, the card read 'divorcios'. They even deliver with a $20 minimum purchase. But have no fear, you'll have no problems racking up a bill, 'cause like I said, Speedy Taco is on point!

Awesome food. The steak tacos Mexican style are the best I've tasted in North Chicago.

Im a big fan of Speedy Taco...everything ive tried on the menu is great. Their Italian Beef special is really good and has its flavor has that spicy kick! Im also a big fan of there wings....and i am picky when it comes to wings. This place rocks when it comes to food.

Very disappointed they raised the prices for the tacos. Food is amazing and tacos are authentic. It's quite a small place that doesn't look too clean, but the food is great. If you're in the area, you might as well head over to Lewis Market to get their tacos! So much better in taste and price $$$!

This place was recommended to me, so I checked it all. I ordered tacos and a beef burrito. It was probably one of the worse decisions of my life! I don't know how people eat here. The $1 tacos at Lewis fresh mart are 1000 times better. I tried again a few weeks later, and ordered a chili cheese dog and some fries. Once again, I was unimpressed. Eat at your own will.

Thee worst attempt at Mexican food I've encountered, and I've had Pepe's before. My eyes till can't process the fact that a beautiful bright green guacamole they sell with the works could taste so foul. Horrible by all means, the avocados where bland, hard and tasted like they where once frozen, also the lime juice was from a bottle, arrgh. One taste!. I am ashamed. If you want good Mexican food take a trip down to Pilsen/Little Village in Chicago. You're guaranteed an amazing meal. Two stars only because the chips where half way decent.

Coming from California I miss having a good reliable local Mexican joint, speedy taco fulfills that need. While I wouldn't say it matches what CA had it pretty good for what's in the area. If you're looking for your go to place for a carne dinner this is it. Steak fries are pretty good, but with everything else I've had in this place I felt like I needed to go on a little (long) run.

This was my favorite place for take out in the area when we lived there. I truly miss the steak tacos. They are muy delicioso! There is so much variety on their menu. My husband liked that he could get a burrito and chicken wings at the same stop. It's also nice that they have burgers, dogs and fries, which smaller kids tend to prefer to Mexican fare.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
